Aurora, Colorado has suffered from a bad reputation as being a bit of a ghetto, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. There are some bad pockets of Aurora, but as a whole the city is a nice place to live and it is so much cheaper than Denver.
If you want to move to the Denver area and you can’t afford to live in Denver then Aurora could be a good compromise. Houses are a fraction of the cost of what they are in Denver and it is only 20 or 30 minutes away from the city. While some areas of Aurora are sketchy and filled with crime, you can easily avoid these areas if you do your homework. There are lots of great neighborhoods in Aurora that are crime free and affordable.
The weather can sometimes be worse than when you move to Aurora and it tends to get more hail, more wind, and more snow. There isn’t as much to do in Aurora as there is in Denver, but if you find a safe neighborhood, you will find things to do. Aurora has its share of strip malls and restaurants and many of the neighborhoods have parks and green spaces you can explore.
It is easier to find a house in Aurora because the competition isn’t so fierce like it is in Denver. You don’t have to worry about competing with everyone for homes and the prices are affordable so an entry level buyer can easily afford a home in Aurora and then possibly move to Denver when they have a higher income. If you are looking to get close to Denver but want a cheaper price tag, Aurora is a good choice. If you buy in the right neighborhood, you will enjoy your stay.
